Save Our Jungles Essay

Save The Rainforest! Essay

We are supposed to be good stewards of this earth while we are still living on it. God gave us this planet to inhabit and have dominion over everything on and in it. That means that we are responsible for keeping it clean, for protecting it from harm or depletion and we have to preserve and replenish the earth.
It is sad to say but humans have played their part in deteriorating the earth. We have polluted and killed the very thing that takes care of us. If you ride by any lake or river you find trash and debris around it. In the “The Call of the Wild” the author says that we have committed war against the earth by the dumping of poisons and explosives upon it (337). Unfortunately, plastics are the things that are doing the most harm to our environment. Plastics are convenient and we use them everyday and these are the things that we find in the oceans, rivers and lakes. They are harmful to the earth as well as human health by directly intoxicating us with lead, cadmium and mercury. Plastic debris laced with harmful chemicals are often found inside of our marine life and can poison them. Plastic can survive for thousands of years and many invasive species are found in them which can disrupt our habitats. We need to limit our consumption of plastics and make sure that they are disposed of in their proper places.
Scientists have begun to say that we have to do more to protect our ecosystem, because our very existence is depending upon it. When the ecosystem is not functioning properly the continuation of plant, animal and human life ecosystems would be impossible. Life cycles can not function without ecosystems. The ecosystem provides us with clean air, water, habitats for fish and other services. They also aid in the modernization of weather, they help vegetation and crops, fertilize the soil, protect the coast from erosion, stabilize the climate, detoxify waste and move or scatter nutrients and seeds from one place to another. Without a healthy ecosystem we have more lung diseases from breathing in toxic air, fewer food choices and a host of other problems.
Industrialization is one of the main causes of the ecosystem breaking down, because we are constantly cutting down trees to build things or herd cattle. Less than a 150 years ago the earth was covered with forests and wild lands, which supported most of the ecosystems on earth above the oceans surface. The ecosystem has been exploited for land development and agribusiness and as a result our planet is fragile. As we read in “Eco-Defense” the American wilderness is undergoing an attack by bulldozers, earth movers, chainsaws and dynamite. This is done just so Americans can bash their way through the forests, mountains and rangelands for the sake of short term profits (344).
The rainforests are equally important to maintaining mother earth. The tropical rainforests are one our largest single most terrestrial source of air that we breathe. The...

Forests are essential for the sustainability of planet earth. Forests command great influence on the climate, soil, and environment of our world.

Why save the forest?

We should save forests as a protection against floods and famines. Forests prevent floods and reduce soil erosion by regulating the flow of water.

Adequate forest cover also ensures a sustainable and safe environment. Forest helps in increasing the humidity of the air and cause greater rainfall.

They also help in increasing the soil fertility. They protect the adjoining crops by reducing the velocity of the storms.

How to save forests?

We can Save forests stopping the cutting of trees (stop deforestation), establishing new forests (afforestation) and reestablishing old forests (reforestation).

We can save the forests through a balanced comprehensive and well-thought out plan.

  • Fresh trees should be planted and in this way the trees that are cut should be replaced.
  • Planting of trees should be a constant progress.
  • Besides, trees that are planted must be of the right type. They should be such that can prevent soil erosion, check floods, and air pollution.
  • They should also be such that grow and mature rapidly and whose wood can be used for the purpose of construction and for making furniture, etc.
  • New varieties of trees should be developed to achieve these ends.
  • Grass and fodder should be grown near the fields in which the people work so that they may use them easily according to their need.
  • Planned afforestation should be undertaken in needed areas.

How to make afforestation programmes a success?

A comprehensive programme of afforestation is the urgent need of the hour, but success in it can be achieved only through the co-operation of the local people.

  • Hence, education of the people in this connection is essential.
  • Strong public opinion should be created against deforestation.
  • Population explosion should be controlled for which intensive efforts should be made on a war-footing.
  • Increased population means more space for the housing and more need for fuel wood, timber, etc.

Deforestation and population explosion are closely interconnected. Hence, no programme of checking deforestation can be successful without a corresponding programme of population control.

The forest conservation programs that are undertaken are scientific. The forests areas are maintained and planted with trees under the Forest conservation programs.
